1.2. Input and Output

Devices that are connected to the computer can be either input or output, or both.

Input devices send data to the computer. Keyboard and mouse are input devices as they send data, like keypresses and mouse movement. Each time you press a keyboard key, it sends to a computer a message that tells which key you pressed.

Display is an output device. It shows things from the computer but doesn't send anything back to it.

Internet connection is both input and output. It sends data from computer to the outside world, like e-mails you send. It also provides data from the web to computer, like web pages you see.
